As the holidays and New Year approach us, there’s truly a lot to be thankful for. Operation Breakthrough, a Charity Navigator: Four Star Charity based in Kansas City, has us all in good spirits after the 14th annual Ugly Christmas Sweater Party.
The kind-hearted masterminds behind this event were able to raise over $200,000 in donations, which will go towards education, health, and family programs for the community. With a charity like Operation Breakthrough, Kansas City kids have a brighter hope for their future.
Operation Breakthrough turned to TANK to help update and improve their website, and we wanted to make sure we saw for ourselves the impact the center makes. We got a first-hand look at all of the good Operation Breakthrough does when we toured their facility. And after that visit, there was no other option, through the website update we needed to make sure visitors understood the difference the center is making.
Since 1971, the organization has been serving central city families with quality child care. It has been their mission and their honor to better the community’s future by expanding and renovating locations until all children are accounted for. Starting with only 50 infants, Operation Breakthrough now sees over 450 children daily from ages 6 weeks to 13 years old.
By providing a safe, loving, and educational environment, underprivileged children have a chance to succeed. It has been documented that about 20% of Operation Breakthrough children are homeless or nearly homeless and many find themselves living in transitional livings programs. Situations like these inflict feelings of worry and anger; life with so much uncertainty is uncomfortable, uneasy, and stressful. Because of Operation Breakthrough, KC kids to have a place where they can feel warm, calm, and accepted. A place where they can mentally grow into smart, productive members of society, while making relationships that last a lifetime.

The holiday season makes us feel all of the feels. During this season of giving we find ourselves feeling jolly and bright. We spend time with family and friends but it's important to remember this time of year is a perfect opportunity to extend the cheer to those in need. The option of donating to Operation Breakthrough is always available but the Ugly Christmas Sweater Party is a fun event benefiting a great cause.
Since 2007, the steering committee for the annual Ugly Christmas Sweater Party has been generating interest to wear the ugliest holiday sweater you can find… while giving back! The party itself has made a debut on the Travel Channel and has become one of Kansas City’s favorite holiday parties of the year. So yeah, we’ll wear ugly sweaters for a beautiful cause. That’s the least we can do!
By attending this party, you’re contributing to therapy for children and families. By being a party person, you feed infants who need formula. By dancing the night away with DJ Alex Reed, you provide a new pair of shoes to a child in need. They say a little bit goes a long way, and “they” were right. In cases like these, it takes attending a party to make a difference. Or donating, of course.
